The latest reports revealed Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from the Portugal squad ahead of their two upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying games.

Portugal led by coach Roberto Martinez have already clinched a place in the finals next year, as they currently have a 100 per cent record in Group J, winning all eight matches with a goal difference of 32-2.

A trip to Liechtenstein on Thursday and Sunday’s home match with Iceland offer a chance to post a flawless campaign across this section and boost confidence ahead of the main tournament in Germany.

After talks with coach Martinez, Dalot has been released for personal reasons while Porto’s young right-back Joao Mario has been drafted in as his replacement.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes who is Dalot’s club teammate will remain part of the squad as the Man United captain looks to add to his 61 international caps and 18 goals.

Dalot, who has been capped 16 times so far by Portugal, has made 17 appearances for Man United this season.

The defender has also represented his national team four times over this period, helping to keep three clean sheets, as they have made light work of qualifying.
