Chelsea could turn to Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni if Enzo Fernandez leaves Stamford Bridge this summer, with reports claiming Xabi Alonso has identified the French international as the ideal replacement.

Fernandez’s future has become one of the biggest talking points of the transfer window. Although the Argentina midfielder remains under contract with Chelsea until 2031, speculation over a potential exit continues after reports suggested he is open to leaving the club in search of a new challenge.

His agent recently confirmed that options are being explored, although no agreement has been reached with any interested club. Real Madrid had been considered a possible destination, but recent reports indicate a move to the Spanish giants is becoming increasingly unlikely.

According to Metro, Alonso believes Chelsea should target Tchouaméni if Fernandez eventually departs. The France international has previously attracted interest from Manchester United and is valued at around £77 million, making him one of Europe’s most highly regarded midfielders.

Tchouaméni has established himself as an important figure for Real Madrid thanks to his defensive qualities, composure in possession and ability to dictate the tempo of matches. Those attributes are believed to make him a suitable replacement should Chelsea lose one of their key midfielders.

For now, Fernandez remains focused on international duty with Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, while his representatives continue to assess his long-term future.

Chelsea’s transfer plans are likely to depend on whether the Argentine ultimately stays or leaves, but Tchouaméni is reportedly among the leading candidates to reinforce the midfield if a major departure materialises before the transfer window closes.
