Portugal coach, Fernando Santos benched Cristiano Ronaldo during their 2022 World Cup Round of 16 clash against Switzerland.

Santos had hinted the 37-year-old forward would not be part of his starting XI for the game during his pre-match press conference.

The Portuguese coach slammed Ronaldo for his reaction after being subbed in their final group fixture against Korea.

For the match against Switzerland, Santos started with Bernado Silva, Joao Felix, Bruno Fernandes and Ramos in the attack.

Starting XI: Costa, Dalot, Pepe, Dias, Guerreiro, Carvalho, Otavio, Bernardo Silva, Fernandes, Felix, Ramos.

Without Ronaldo, Portugal went on to thrash Switzerland by a 6-1 scoreline to move to the quarter-final of the tournament.

It appears Ronaldo may have brought his club attitude to the national team and may not also start when Portugal face Morocco in their next match.

In another report, Ronaldo will have to decide on his next club after the world cup after his contract with Man Utd was terminated after his explosive interview.
