Why Onana would cost Man Utd more points

British sports journalist Richard Key has sent a message to Manchester United about their new goalkeeper, Andre Onana.

According to the veteran journalist, Onana will cost the Red Devils more points than David de Gea.

Recall that Manchester United chose to let their long-term goalkeeper David De Gea leave Old Trafford on a free transfer when his contract expired at the end of June.

After De Gea’s exit, the Red Devils opted to sign him Onana in a £47.2m deal from Inter Milan as his replacement.

Onana who is now the Red Devils’ first-choice goalkeeper was in goal for their opening game, a narrow 1-0 win against Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday.

The goalkeeper was involved in an incident during the closing stages of the match and managed to escape punishment following his challenge on Wolves’ Sasa Kalajdzic.

Referee Simon Hooper refused to award a penalty, while VAR review did not deem the incident a clear and obvious error.

But Keys believes the Cameroon international is not an improvement on De Gea for United.

“I think the new [Manchester United]keeper will cost them as many points as De Gea used to save them,” Keys said on beIN Sports.

“Is what Andre Onana gives you, in clipping a ball to a centre forward’s chest, going to win you a football match? No!”
