Volker Struth, the agent of former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann in a statement claimed he took the right decision to turn down an offer to manage Chelsea.

Recall that after Graham Potter’s sack at Chelsea, Nagelsmann was named among the favourites to replace the former Brighton manager.

However, the 35-year-old manager dropped out of the race, with Chelsea recently reaching an agreement with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to take over as their head coach next season.

“I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call [after Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern Munich]. There were some phone conversations,” Struth said to Bild podcast Phrasenmaher.

“It was the right decision (by Nagelsmann) not to go there. It is a club in troubled waters at the moment. And their transfer policy, spending a few hundred million euros, has raised expectations that need to be met.

“There were also some other issues. He was their number one choice; that was our information. I believe it would have happened if he had wanted it.”
