Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag in a post-match statement has revealed why he replaced Rasmus Hojlund with Anthony Martial during their Saturday match vs Brighton.

According to Ten Hag Hojlund is carrying a “small issue”, which was the reason he was substituted early in the second half of their 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford.

A highlight of the match showed fans inside Old Trafford booing Ten Hag’s decision to replace Hojlund with Anthony Martial.

Hojlund saw a goal disallowed because the ball had gone out before Marcus Rashford crossed it before he was taken off.

On fans’ reaction to Hojlund’s substitution, Ten Hag told Sky Sports: “He is coming with a small issue and we have to be careful, but the reception of the fans was great.

“His game was great, and the fans embraced it. He was unlucky with the disallowed goal; it would have been a great afternoon for him. It was not the case, but he will keep going. He is a strong character, as we are as a team, and we will push back.”
