Why Fernandes is not captain material

Former Premier League star, Andy Townsend has reacted to Manchester United and manager, Erik ten Hag’s decision to make Bruno Fernandes the club’s new captain.

Townsend in his message slammed Ten Hag as he stressed that the Portuguese star is ‘not captain’s material’.

According to him, while many believe that the Portugal international is a talented player, “his antics and behaviour on the pitch when things aren’t going right mean he can’t be compared to Roy Keane, Bryan Robson and other legendary United skippers of the past.”

“I don’t think he’s captain material!”

“Too many times people are given the armband just to keep them at the club.”

Recall that Erik ten Hag recently stripped the Red Devils defender and England international Harry Maguire of the Red Devil’s captain armband and handed it to Bruno Fernandes this summer.

Meanwhile, Fernandes has been under criticism following his action during Man Utd’s recent game vs Tottenham Hotspur.
