Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has opened up on why Declan Rice made the decision to join Arsenal from West Ham.

Recall that the English midfielder was a subject of interest from the Gunners and Man City this summer.

The Citizens saw their £90m bid rejected for the 24-year-old before Arsenal returned with a bid of over £100m to secure Rice’s signature.

Guardiola who described Rice as an “incredible player” is a great asset for their Premier League rivals as he suggested that the midfielder has always wanted to play under Mikel Arteta despite substantial interest from Manchester City.

“Rice decided on Arsenal so all the best.

“He’s an important player, a very nice guy and for England will be important. For Arsenal, what an incredible player,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield final at Wembley.
