Chelsea were linked with moves for Sevilla defender and France international Jules Kounde in the recent summer transfer, but they didn’t work out.

However, in a recent statement, Sevilla director Monchi has opened up more about Chelsea’s failed move for Kounde in the summer.

Monchi suggested that whilst the Blues’ offer was considerable; it was not enough to tempt the Spanish outfit into selling.

Talking to Canal Sur Radio, he said: “The proposal for Koundé last summer [from Chelsea] was great, the most important we received in our history – but it wasn’t meeting our price tag. Also, we received the bid in an inopportune moment.”

Aside from Chelsea, Kounde was linked with moves to Man Utd, and a new report has revealed that the French defender is keen on joining the Red Devils instead.

The reports revealed that Kounde had told his agent to open talks with Man Utd.

It is, however, uncertain if the Red Devils would be willing to meet Kounde’s transfer price which is valued at €90m (£75.9m).

Spanish Real Madrid are also interested in the French defender but he prefers a move to the EPL.
