What Chelsea need to match Man City

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has said Chelsea need to sign four top players to be able to match Man City this season.

So far, the Blues have already splashed £1bn on new players in the last three transfer windows since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake takeover.

Chelsea have signed 33 new players since May 2022.

But the west London side finished 12th in the Premier League last season with Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard all in charge

This season the Blues are seated in the bottom half following Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment in the summer.

Carragher told Monday Night Football: “If you’re telling me that is Chelsea’s best team after they’ve spent £1bn… that team would still need at least four top players if they had any chance of catching Manchester City.

“The goalkeeper is not good enough, the centre-forward is not good enough, they need a centre-back and probably another midfield player.

“To think Chelsea have spent over £1bn and they still feel like they’re half a team away from competing for the Premier League title is flabbergasting.”
