Chelsea midfielder and Italy international Jorginho have been less impressive in two of the Blues previous matches.

However, in a latest statement, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he predicted Jorginho’s dip.

According to Tuchel, the poor performance from the Italian midfielder was expected as he had not rested.

Jorginho has been sidelined due to a back injury he sustained during the Premier League clash vs Watford.

He also made two mistakes in the space of a week, giving the ball away for Jadon Sancho’s goal in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United and under-hit a back-pass to Edouard Mendy, which led to West Ham’s equaliser in their 3-2 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

“If you see Jorginho making a mistake like this…it’s more a technical, decision-making problem,” Tuchel told the press on Tuesday.

“And this also refers to mental and physical fatigue. If you see now that Jorginho is out with back pain you know he played with back pain against West Ham.

“Especially with Jorgi, he comes from the Euros and the Champions League, he comes straight away with no pre-season to the Super Cup final. We knew that in some weeks he will face a dip in freshness, a dip in form.”

It is unlikely that Jorginho will play when Chelsea face Russian club Zenit in the UCL tonight.
