Chelsea’s pursuit of Strasbourg defender Mohamed Simakan is about to get more intense as Liverpool are reportedly eyeing the young defender.

Frank Lampard was the highest spender during the last transfer window but the form of Chelsea in the past few weeks has seen the blues linked with some players across Europe.

The blues are eager to find a suitable replacement for Thiago Silva who is 36 years old and has just some season to play at the highest level and Mohamed Simakan have caught the eyes of their scout.

However, the blues are now set to compete with Liverpool who have been having their share of injury problems at the back.

Liverpool are currently without  Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez who are sidelined for a long-term injury as well as Matip who joined the list some weeks ago.

However, the reds manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that they might not be against adding a new centre-back to his squad in January but according to Telefoot, the Merseyside giants are contemplating whether to make a bid for Simakan.

Simakan has become a prominent win Strasbourg this season as he has make a total of 18 starts in Ligue 1 during the current campaign and has been consistent with his performance.
