Transfer News: Chelsea hopeful of signing Spanish star ahead of transfer deadline

With the transfer window set to close in the next few hours, Chelsea are not given up on their pursuit of Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.

Saul Niguez has been linked with London club for the past few weeks with Thomas Tuchel eager to have enough depth in his squad in what will be a competitive season.

However, Atletico Madrid have not been able to agree a deal with the blues due to their inability to find a replacement for Saul.

Things have now changed as the latest report The Athletic claims there is an optimism that the deal will be completed before this evening’s deadline.

The report claimed that Chelsea are hopeful of signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Reports claimed Manchester United are also interested in signing Saul but the Spain international prefers moving to Stamford Bridge rather than Old Trafford.

Saul played an important role for Atletico Madrid last season as they stop Barcelona and Real Madrid’s dominance by winning the La Liga.

If he completes his move to Chelsea, Saul will be competing with Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic for a place in central midfield.
