Former Man Utd star Wayne Rooney has stated that the Red Devils will not finish in the top four this season.

Rooney made this comment while speaking on TNT Sports, after Man Utd beat Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford.

The recent victory means Man United remain in sixth place, with Aston Villa and Tottenham occupying fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Rooney, however, said Aston Villa and Tottenham have the advantage in the race for Champions League places.

He said: “I don’t think Manchester United will make the top four, because they have to almost win every game.

“I think they’re a team that are very inconsistent and I can’t see them winning every game, so I think it’s going to be very difficult.

“Today I think it was 20-odd chances against them, but there were no clear-cut chances for Everton. But it’s too many. There’s too many gaps, it’s too easy for teams to get opportunities against them.”
