Inter Miami striker, Luis Suarez in a recent statement has opened up on how he almost signed for Spanish giant Real Madrid as a replacement for Karim Benzema.

Suarez made the claim known during an interview with DelSol, as disclosed that he chose to join Barcelona instead, scuppering a move to Arsenal for Benzema.

According to him, the infamous bite on Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 World Cup saw Madrid drop interest.

“Before the 2014 World Cup, Real Madrid wanted me as they wanted to sell Benzema to Arsenal.

“Barcelona at the time was [also] interested and Luis Enrique was pressing.

“The bite case happened and Barcelona continued to want to sign me despite the punishment. I will always be grateful for that,” Suarez said.

Meanwhile, Benzema has been linked with moves away from the Saudi Pro League where he currently plays.
