Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has shared his opinion on the trust Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has in Olivier Giroud as his leading striker.

Chelsea have been impressive under Thomas Tuchel ever since he replaced Frank Lampard and he has made some changes to the team which includes giving Giroud an edge over Tammy Abraham.

Giroud was in the starting lineup in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday but couldn’t find back of the night just five days after his sublime bicycle kick against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

When Ferdinand was asked if Chelsea, as a team has enough strike power to push them onto to challenge for Premier League’s or even the top four on Rio Ferdinand, Presents Five.

He stated that on the form, not at all as he asked how long Chelsea are going to keep relying on Giroud, at his age, where’s he’s at in his career, he’s an impact player 100%.

Ferdinand noted that for Giroud to be leading the line, it says really where they are at in terms of, they need to make some recruitments in that area.

The former Manchester United forward added that Timo Werner is better off playing in a wider position where he was playing at Leipzig but Chelsea are fully stocked out there as they have Pulisic as well.
