Chelsea manager Graham Potter in a post-match statement has expressed his delight after his side defeated Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The Blues won the game in a 2-0 scoreline thanks to Mason Mount and Arrizabalaga Kepa making some crucial saves.

Potter admitted the game against Aston Villa wasn’t the perfect performance, but he is happy to come away with the points and the win in the circumstances.

‘I’m obviously delighted with the result because it was a hard-fought game,’ he said. ‘Aston Villa made us suffer, certainly in that first half. We started off okay then lost our way a little bit in the second half of the first half.

‘We needed Kepa then and he made some fantastic saves. Again Mason’s made the difference, but I thought we did better in the second half. It was more stable.

‘It’s not easy for us in terms of the number of games we’ve played and to come back from Milan and to come here. They’ve got a lot of quality on the pitch so they can cause you problems at any point.

‘So I’m delighted with the three points and delighted with the clean sheet and pleased for Mason and Kepa in particular, in that they’ve managed to help us get over the line. That will probably be the story but different players need to step up and today they’ve done it.’
