Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has named football legend, Pele, among the six ‘eternal’ talents of football.

Guardiola stated this on Friday while paying tribute to the late Brazil star, who passed away at the age of 82 on Thursday evening after battling colon cancer.

The Man City manager said Pele and the likes of Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff, Lionel Messi, Franz Beckenbauer and Cristiano Ronaldo will transcend the sport.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Man City’s Premier League tie with Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Guardiola told reporters: “I never pretend to be Pele, honestly.

“I never saw him play, I spoke with people who said he was the greatest for them. What he has done, not just winning three World Cups, the goals and he was a new thing when he came up.

“I wasn’t born when he was playing. It is like a good movie, the legacy that we are still talking about him, about a good movie, a good book because he was so good.

“Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Messi, Beckenbauer, Cristiano Ronaldo, these players will be eternal. They’ve done many things for many years, these types of players make our business, our job, a better place.”
