Former Manchester United and France defender Patrice Evra has urged Arsenal to prioritise a move for Roma midfielder Manu Koné, believing the French international has all the qualities needed to thrive under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal are expected to strengthen their midfield this summer as they prepare for another Premier League title challenge. While the Gunners have been linked with several high-profile names, including Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, Evra believes Koné would be the better fit for Arteta’s evolving squad.

The 25-year-old has enhanced his reputation during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing a key role in France’s run to the quarter-finals with a series of composed and energetic displays in midfield. His ability to win possession, carry the ball forward and dictate the tempo has attracted widespread praise throughout the tournament.

Reports earlier this summer suggested Arsenal had already reached an agreement on personal terms with the midfielder, although negotiations with Roma would still be required. The Serie A club are believed to value Koné at around €50 million (£43 million), making him one of the most sought-after midfielders available this window.

Evra believes the Frenchman possesses the complete skill set to succeed in the Premier League, praising his athleticism, technical ability and tactical intelligence. Those attributes, combined with his age and experience at the highest level, make him an appealing option for Arsenal.

As the transfer window gathers pace following the World Cup, Arsenal are expected to continue exploring midfield reinforcements, with Koné remaining firmly among the club’s leading targets.
