Newcastle United defender, Dan Burn has reacted to the clash between hun and Chelsea forward Kai Havertz after his side’s 1-0 win over the Blues on Saturday.

Burn in his statement played down the harshness of his injury-time fight with Havertz.

While Newcastle won all three points against  Chelsea, thanks to a second-half goal from Joe Willock, a highlight towards the close of the match, showed Burn and Havertz being involved in a bust-up on the pitch after both players squared up to each other.

Burn and Havertz already have a history as the Blues forward had escaped a red card when he elbowed the Newcastle defender during their match at Stamford Bridge back in March.

When Burn was asked about the incident, the defender said at his post-match press conference: “It was the emotion of the game, was not it?

“Me and Kai had a few run-ins before and it is just part and parcel of the game. It can get the better of you at times.

“But when you are in that environment and clinging on in stoppage time and wanting to win the game, these things happen.”
