Former Man Utd star Gary Neville believes they still have a chance of securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Neville made his optimism about the Red Devils known while he was speaking on Sky Sports, following their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The recent loss to the current Premier League champions is the Red Devils’ second successive defeat after they lost 2-1 to Fulham at Old Trafford last weekend.

“Last week against Fulham was more of a problem than today. Today was likely going to end in defeat.

“Villa play Spurs next week so both could drop points so United could get close. There’s still hope for United there but they’re inconsistent,” Neville said.

The outcome of the match against Man City left Man United in sixth place with 44 points after 27 fixtures.

Meanwhile, Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag is now focused on finishing in the top five on the league table.
