Manchester United in Advanced Talks for Elite Striker Viktor Gyökeres

Manchester United are reportedly in serious discussions to sign Viktor Gyökeres, with the club aiming to outpace Arsenal and several other top-tier European sides in securing the prolific striker.
The move could significantly overshadow any potential deal for young forward Liam Delap, who has also attracted Premier League attention.
Initial speculation linked Gyökeres to a January transfer when Rúben Amorim was rumoured to be leaving Sporting CP for the managerial role at Old Trafford. At the time, Amorim dismissed the move, choosing not to immediately dismantle his former club’s core lineup.
However, interest in Gyökeres from both Amorim and United has persisted — particularly as current forward Rasmus Højlund continues to struggle with consistency in front of goal.
Amorim is reportedly eager for Manchester United to sign a proven No. 9 this summer, potentially paving the way for a Premier League reunion with Gyökeres.
While previous reports suggested the transfer was a “done deal,” Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has offered a more cautious update, confirming that although talks are “concrete,” the Swedish striker has not yet given his approval to the move.
Furthermore, no formal agreement has been reached between Manchester United and Gyökeres at this stage. Still, with Amorim pushing for a high-calibre attacking addition, and United’s intent to strengthen their front line, this pursuit of Gyökeres remains a key storyline heading into the summer transfer window.
