Manchester United could still swoop in to sign Viktor Gyokeres, despite Arsenal reportedly leading the race for his signature.

The Swedish striker has been at the centre of major transfer speculation this summer, with several top European clubs monitoring his progress at Sporting CP. Arsenal, Manchester United, and Juventus are all said to be keen on securing his services, as they look to add one of Europe’s most prolific forwards to their squads.

Reports suggest Arsenal are currently in pole position and are edging closer to an agreement for the 26-year-old. However, Manchester United remain firmly in the picture.

According to respected journalist Ben Jacobs, Gyokeres has never ruled out a move to Old Trafford and remains open to the possibility of joining Manchester United, even without the lure of Champions League football next season.

Jacobs also provided insight into Sporting boss Ruben Amorim’s plans to sign a new striker, highlighting how Manchester United still have a chance to land Gyokeres if they move quickly.

“With Manchester United and Gyokeres, it’s important to mention that Gyokeres has never said no to Manchester United,” Jacobs explained. “He was, and still is, open to the idea.”

With Arsenal pushing hard to finalise a deal, Manchester United could use this openness as a key advantage in their bid to hijack the move before the transfer window closes.
