Manchester United and Chelsea Among Four Clubs Eyeing Lille Striker

Jonathan David finds himself at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and West Ham all keen on the Lille striker as they seek to bolster their attacking options.

David, currently representing Canada at the Copa América, could be a standout bargain this transfer window.

With less than 12 months remaining on his contract and no intention of extending, Lille is expected to cash in on the forward, potentially for as little as £20 million.

The striker, eager for a Premier League move, has drawn attention from top clubs.

Chelsea, United, Tottenham, and West Ham have all inquired about David, who has scored 84 goals in 183 matches since joining Lille from Gent four years ago.

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, have been long-time admirers, with Winstanley previously eyeing David for Brighton.

While Chelsea’s pursuit of David is uncertain, they are actively considering other strikers.

They are close to finalizing a €6 million (£5 million) deal for Barcelona’s 18-year-old forward Marc Guiu and have shown interest in Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier.

However, financial constraints might prevent them from bidding for Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, and their move for Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán has stalled.

Tottenham is eager to add variety to their attack and views David as a valuable addition, especially after his goals helped Lille secure the Ligue 1 title in 2021.

West Ham, aiming to refresh their forward line with alternatives to Michail Antonio and Danny Ings, remains in the race despite potential challenges regarding David’s wage demands, which could make him their highest-paid player.

Manchester United’s interest in David might hinge on their pursuit of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, while AC Milan has also tracked David in the past.
