Manchester United are set to go head-to-head with Arsenal in the race to sign Brentford striker Igor Thiago, as both Premier League giants look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

While midfield reinforcements remain Manchester United’s primary focus this summer, the club is also keen to add further depth in attack. The departure of Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli on a permanent deal has left United searching for another centre-forward who can compete with and support Benjamin Sesko. Joshua Zirkzee’s future also remains uncertain, with reports suggesting he could leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.

Several forwards have been linked with United in recent weeks, including Eli Junior Kroupi and Jean-Philippe Mateta. However, Thiago has now emerged as a serious target following an outstanding campaign with Brentford.

The Brazilian striker enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Premier League, scoring 22 goals in 38 appearances and establishing himself as one of the division’s most dangerous forwards. His impressive performances have not only earned him a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad but have also attracted significant interest from some of England’s biggest clubs.

According to reports from Brazil, both Manchester United and Arsenal are closely monitoring Thiago’s situation. United are understood to be assessing whether to formalise their interest with an official offer, while Arsenal are also weighing up a potential move.

With Brentford reportedly valuing the striker at around €80 million, a fierce transfer battle could develop in the coming weeks as both clubs look to secure one of the Premier League’s most in-form attackers.
