Manchester United and Chelsea have emerged as serious contenders to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who could be available at a cut-price fee this summer.

Both Premier League giants are reportedly exploring options to upgrade their goalkeeping departments ahead of the new season.

At Old Trafford, new manager Ruben Amorim is believed to be open to replacing André Onana following an inconsistent campaign. The Cameroonian has recently been linked with a potential move to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, which could pave the way for a new number one. Among the names being considered is Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez. The Argentine World Cup winner is said to be keen on a switch to United and may be available for as little as £16 million after a successful spell under Unai Emery.

However, United’s interest does not end there. Reports now suggest the club, alongside Chelsea, is monitoring the situation of ter Stegen at Barcelona. The German international, a six-time La Liga champion, could be on the move if the Catalan side decides to cash in amid ongoing financial pressures.

Chelsea are also looking to reinforce their goalkeeping options, with Kepa Arrizabalaga likely to depart and Robert Sánchez facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. Ter Stegen’s experience and quality make him a highly attractive option, especially at a potentially reduced price.

With both clubs keen, a transfer battle for the Barcelona star could unfold in the coming weeks.
