Liverpool Inquire About Signing Chelsea’s Levi Colwill

Liverpool have reached out to Chelsea regarding the potential transfer of 21-year-old defender Levi Colwill, according to recent reports.

The Reds are preparing for a new chapter under manager Arne Slot, with numerous players being linked to the club ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk’s contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of next season, by which time he will be 33 years old.

With no extension confirmed yet, there is speculation about his future, including potential interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool’s Interest in Colwill

Liverpool have made it a priority to strengthen their defense and attack this transfer window. According to HITC, the Reds have contacted Chelsea to inquire about Colwill’s availability.

Liverpool have long admired Colwill, dating back to his time at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite Chelsea’s need to offload several homegrown players to balance their finances, Colwill is not currently considered a candidate for departure.

Players such as Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, and Armando Broja are among those potentially leaving Stamford Bridge.

Colwill, however, is reportedly uncertain about his future at Chelsea. While he dreams of solidifying his place in the Chelsea squad, he plans to discuss his prospects with new manager Enzo Maresca, especially after being sidelined by former boss Mauricio Pochettino late last season.

Liverpool’s Defensive Strategy

Colwill made 23 Premier League appearances during the 2023-24 season, averaging 2.1 tackles and 1.9 aerial duels won per 90 minutes.

Chelsea may be reluctant to sell him to maintain financial stability and comply with Premier League PSR rules, but they might reconsider if Colwill expresses a desire to leave.

Liverpool are also considering other defensive targets, such as Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho, Goncalo Inacio from Sporting Lisbon, and Lille’s young talent Leny Yoro.

With Joel Matip departing at the end of last season and Joe Gomez potentially seeking more regular playing time elsewhere, Liverpool are keen to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season.
