Julian Alvarez Addresses Chelsea Transfer Speculation, Affirms Commitment to Man City
Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez has expressed his contentment at the club amidst speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.
Standard Sport reports that Chelsea has prioritized signing a new forward this summer, particularly after Nicolas Jackson’s inconsistent first season and recent serious ankle injury sustained during international duty with Senegal.
Chelsea is considering RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who has a release clause of around £56 million, as a potential signing.
The Blues are also interested in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but are hesitant to meet the over £100 million price tag. Additionally, while Brighton’s Evan Ferguson has admirers at Stamford Bridge, he is not a target for this window.
Since joining Manchester City from River Plate in the summer of 2022, Alvarez has mostly played second fiddle to Erling Haaland.
Despite this, he managed to start 31 Premier League games last season due to Haaland’s injury. Atletico Madrid has shown interest in Alvarez, but their president Enrique Cerezo recently indicated that the 24-year-old will remain at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking to ESPN while on Copa America duty with Argentina, Alvarez said, “These are things that are said, but I am calm; I am comfortable and happy at City; we will see what happens.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea has already signed Tosin Adarabioyo as part of the Enzo Maresca era and is targeting additional moves for a goalkeeper and a left-back.
