Romelu Lukaku is on the verge of completing his move to Chelsea from Inter Milan, and Rio Ferdinand has revealed how this will help Timo Werner.

Timo Werner arrived in Chelsea from RB Leipzig last season but has not convinced blues fans with his conversation rate.

This has prompt Chelsea into moving for Lukaku, who is now set to sign a five-year contract in west London ahead of an official announcement.

Lukaku’s move means there will be limited chances for Werner upfront, but Ferdinand thinks the Belgium international imminent arrival could benefit the German star.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Villarreal, Ferdinand stated that Romelu Lukaku coming in does definitely put pressure on other people.

He noted that Timo Werner is definitely the first person who comes to mind, but he grew into it last season.

Ferdinand stated that if Lukaku gets the chances he missed last season, then Lukaku gets 30-plus goals this season because he’s a predator, but Werner stretches teams, he runs in behind, and that will suit Lukaku.

According to Ferdinand, Werner drags centre-backs into wide areas, which will free up space for someone like Lukaku, who will then get chances from these situations.

Werner started the game against Villarreal on Wednesday night but was replaced in the second half as penalties were decided.
