Fofana reveals what Lampard told players ahead of UCL 2nd leg match vs Real Madrid
Ahead of Chelsea’s UCL second leg fixtures vs Real Madrid on Tuesday, the Blues defender Wesley Fofana has opened up on how Frank Lampard motivated the players.
Recall that Lampard arrived at Stamford Bridge as the Blues’ interim manager after they sacked Graham Potter earlier this month.
However, Lampard’s 2nd return has been marred by three defeats in a row, including a latest loss to Brighton in the EPL on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of the Blues Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash with Real Madrid, Fofana said Lampard told him and his teammates to go back to the basics.
“He was welcomed back in the best way possible because he is Mr. Frank Lampard. He is a club legend,” Fofana told Telefoot.
“He told us to get our confidence back and play simple football again. To get back to the basics, really. His words moved us all because it’s what we needed to get our confidence back. And to realise that we are fighting for a club. We are fighting for a great club.”
