Chelsea have seen their unofficial deadline for Enzo Fernandez’s potential departure pass without a formal offer, with the club now expecting the Argentina international to remain at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming season.

Chelsea had given Manchester City and any other interested clubs until 5pm on Friday to submit a suitable proposal for the midfielder. However, reports indicate that no offers were received before the deadline expired.

The Blues had made their position clear throughout the summer. Chelsea were prepared to consider selling Fernandez, but only if their £120 million valuation was met. Despite Manchester City’s reported interest and Enzo Maresca’s desire to reunite with the midfielder, no agreement could be reached.

With the deadline now passed, Chelsea are understood to have moved on from the possibility of a late transfer and are preparing for Fernandez to remain part of Xabi Alonso’s plans.

The 25-year-old has been at the centre of transfer speculation for much of the summer, with his future becoming uncertain amid reported interest from several major clubs. However, Chelsea’s firm financial demands ultimately proved too difficult for potential suitors to meet.

Fernandez’s continued presence will provide Alonso with an important midfield option as Chelsea attempt to recover from a disappointing campaign and compete for a stronger league position.

Unless a dramatic late development changes the situation, Fernandez is now expected to stay at Stamford Bridge, bringing an end to one of Chelsea’s biggest transfer sagas of the summer.
