Emery speaks on Arsenal impact after Villarreal defeated Man Utd

Former Arsenal and now Villarreal coach, Unai Emery has taken time out to credit Arsenal for the effect the North London club had on his career.

Emery made this known following his side’s recent win vs. Man Utd in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

The game ended on penalty kicks in favour of Villareal and saw Emery clinched his fourth trophy while Villarreal won their first major title.

Recall that Emery who once coach the Gunners won the UEFA  Europa League with the English side but was unable to repeat it when the Gunners met Chelsea in the final the second time.

He was, however, sacked six months after the defeat to Chelsea in that final but the former Sevilla boss believes that setback at Arsenal has helped him get better as a coach.

Emery would later defeat Arsenal in the semi-final and also win the Europa League trophy this season.

“I believe it’s not a sporting revenge at all,’ Emery said after Villarreal’s win vs. Man Utd.

“I try to enjoy every moment, winning and losing. I try to create new circumstances, so everywhere I have been, even in England at Arsenal, I have learnt a lot, met many people, other cultures and football.

At the end of that story was professional frustration, but some other doors opened then.

“Winning today is a satisfaction, but for my club today, as it was when I was at Sevilla.

“When I was at Arsenal, we played a Europa League final and could not win but it is a process, from that.
