Cucurella Deal Opens Door for Chelsea Move for Real Madrid’s Defender

Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Real Madrid left-back Álvaro Carreras, with incoming manager Xabi Alonso said to be a strong admirer of the Spanish defender.
The development comes after Real Madrid completed the signing of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal worth around £52 million. Cucurella arrives in Madrid with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s most consistent left-backs and is expected to play a prominent role under new head coach José Mourinho.
His arrival has inevitably cast doubt over the future of Carreras, who only joined Real Madrid from Benfica last summer. The 23-year-old was viewed as a long-term solution on the left side of defence, but increased competition for places could force the club to reassess his position within the squad.
According to reports, Alonso is keen on bringing Carreras to Stamford Bridge as he begins shaping Chelsea’s squad ahead of the new season. The Spaniard’s technical quality, attacking instincts and familiarity with top-level football make him an attractive option for the Blues.
Chelsea are not alone in monitoring the situation. Manchester United have also been linked with a move for their former academy player as they look to strengthen at left-back during the summer transfer window. A return to Old Trafford has been suggested as a possibility, with the Premier League side believed to be exploring potential options in the position.
As Real Madrid continue to reshape their squad, Carreras could become one of the most sought-after defenders on the market, with both Chelsea and Manchester United closely watching his next move.
