Chelsea have been urged to reconsider their search for a new left-back, with former Blues striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink encouraging the club to pursue Lewis Hall instead of Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso.

The Blues are looking to strengthen the left side of their defence following Marc Cucurella’s departure to Real Madrid. New head coach Xabi Alonso is keen to reinforce his squad ahead of the new campaign, and Cambiaso has emerged as one of Chelsea’s leading targets after discussions were held over a potential transfer.

While the Italy international is admired for his versatility and attacking qualities, Hasselbaink believes Chelsea should instead focus on bringing Hall back to Stamford Bridge. The academy graduate left the club before establishing himself in the first team and has since impressed with his performances in the Premier League.

Hall is also attracting interest from Manchester United, raising the possibility of a transfer battle between the two Premier League rivals. Hasselbaink feels Chelsea should move quickly if an opportunity arises, arguing that Hall already understands the club’s culture and has developed into a player capable of making an immediate impact.

Chelsea are continuing to assess several defensive options as Alonso reshapes his squad, with the club determined to build a team capable of challenging for major honours. Whether they press ahead with a move for Cambiaso or attempt to hijack Manchester United’s pursuit of Hall remains to be seen, but strengthening the left-back position is expected to remain one of their priorities before the transfer window closes.
