Chelsea told to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has advised Chelsea to make a move for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez after his impressive outing for Argentina in the 2022 World Cup.

This comes as Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy reportedly declined a new six-year contract offer from the club after being unhappy with the wages offered.

Mendy is being paid below Kepa Arrizabalaga despite being the first-choice goalkeeper under former managers Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

Although the Blues’ current manager, Graham Potter, favours Arrizabalaga as his number one, it, however, means Mendy could leave Chelsea if the offers are not right.

Should Chelsea consider a replacement goalkeeper for Mendy, Cole has advised them to go for Aston Villa’s goalkeeper.

“Martinez for me,” the former England international told the All to Play For podcast.

“I watched him, he didn’t have that many shots to face because they were so good in front of him, but you know what he is good at? Crossing, commanding, and you know he’s connected to his back four.

“In the big moments, he delivered,

“If I’m Chelsea I am tabling a bid for him now. I think he was outstanding.”
