Chelsea to recall defender from Crystal Palace

As the January transfer window continues, Chelsea have been reported to be considering plans to recall their defender Trevor Chalobah from Crystal Palace.

It is no longer news that the Blues are currently faced with a bit of an injury crisis in defence and will need all the help they can get as the season progresses in the new year.

The Blues stares like Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile have left Enzo Maresca’s side short of options in central defence, forcing the manager to make use of academy graduate Josh Acheampong, who made his Premier League debut in the recent 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

A report by Football London disclosed that the current situation at Stamford Bridge has led to the Blues considering ending Chalobah’s loan deal with Palace.

Recall that Chalobah signed a season-long loan deal with Palace in the summer transfer window after he was considered surplus to requirements by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

Maresca had left Chalobah out of pre-season preparations, with a surplus of defensive options at the time, including Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Axel Disasi.

However, since his transfer, the 25-year-old defender has flourished at Crystal Palace under manager Oliver Glasner, making 12 appearances and scoring three goals, including a crucial strike in their recent 2-1 win over Southampton.
