Chelsea are reportedly preparing to submit a new bid for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion after their initial offer was rejected.

The Blues tested the waters with an offer of around £33.8 million, which included approximately £25.4 million upfront and the rest in add-ons.

Atletico swiftly rebuffed Chelsea’s offer, as Diego Simeone’s team views Omorodion as a key future prospect following his successful loan spell at Alaves.

The young striker, born in 2004, scored eight goals in 35 matches during the 2023-24 campaign. Prior to this, Atletico signed him from Granada for just €6 million (£5.1 million).

With four years remaining on his contract, Atletico Madrid is under no pressure to sell the 20-year-old, who is also reportedly on West Ham United’s radar.

Despite the initial rejection, Chelsea remains undeterred. According to Football Insider, they are preparing a second bid for Omorodion.

The Blues believe the young striker has the potential to succeed in the Premier League, even though he is still considered an “unknown quantity.”

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, Omorodion has yet to make his senior debut for Atletico Madrid but has scored two goals in seven appearances for Spain’s Under-21 side.

He made an impactful senior debut for Granada, scoring against Atletico before joining them on a five-year contract.

Omorodion is one of several attacking talents on Chelsea’s summer shortlist. The club has faced setbacks, including missing out on Michael Olise, who chose to join Bayern Munich instead.

However, Chelsea is reportedly close to signing 18-year-old Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa for around £19 million. Additionally, they are pursuing Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and have an interest in Kellyman’s Villa teammate Jhon Duran.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Samu Omorodion highlights their commitment to strengthening their squad with young talent, even in the face of initial setbacks.

The outcome of these negotiations will be crucial as the club aims to bolster its attacking options for the upcoming season.
