Chelsea have opened up on why they signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton this summer.

The Blues in a statement said they signed the top midfielder because of his form in the European football over the past months.

This comes as Chelsea on Monday evening announced the signing of Caicedo from Brighton as they finally beat Liverpool in the race for the football star.

The report revealed the 21-year-old signed an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with a club option of a further year.

Speaking after signing the Ecuadorian star, Chelsea’s Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said via the club’s website: “Moises has proved himself as a standout player in European football over the past 18 months, and we are thrilled to add him to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

“Moises possesses a rare midfield skill set and is a player we’ve been targeting for some time.

“We believe he will make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge this season – and in the years ahead.”
