Chelsea Identify Premier League Defender as Key Summer Transfer Target

Chelsea are reportedly preparing a move for Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix as they look to add greater experience and quality to their squad during the summer transfer window.

The Blues are expected to adjust their recent recruitment strategy, which has largely focused on signing young prospects with long-term potential. Instead, the club is now prioritising players who can make an immediate impact and bring proven experience at the highest level.

According to reports, Chelsea want to add at least two established players who have already demonstrated their ability in one of Europe’s top five leagues. As a result, Lacroix has emerged as one of the club’s leading defensive targets ahead of the new season.

The French centre-back joined Crystal Palace in 2024 and has quickly become a key figure in the Eagles’ back line. His commanding presence, athleticism and consistency have impressed both supporters and observers, making him one of the standout defenders in the Premier League over the past campaign.

Chelsea are believed to be assessing several defensive options, with Lacroix among a shortlist of preferred candidates. Strengthening the back line has become a major priority for the club following recent changes within the squad, and the Palace defender is viewed as a player capable of improving their defensive stability immediately.

However, securing a deal may not be straightforward. Crystal Palace are under no pressure to sell, as Lacroix remains under contract for another three years. While the South London club could consider offers if a suitable replacement is identified, they are expected to demand a significant fee for one of their most important players.
