Chelsea decide on deal for Marcus Rashford
Chelsea have decided to make a move for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford after Barcelona shared plans to return him to Old Trafford.
Rashford, who moved to Camp Nou on a loan transfer last summer had high hopes of landing a permanent deal with the La Liga giants.
The 28-year-old, who is set for England’s World Cup campaign, made a significant impact during his time in Spain, scoring 14 goals across all competitions.
His contribution saw the Catalans led by manager Hansi Flick win the La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.
The Catalans had signed Rashford for approximately £26 million and there were speculations that they would activate his release clause, especially since Flick and Barcelona’s sporting director Deco commended his performances.
Things, however, took a different turn following the rivals of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United last month.
Barcelona are now set to return the English star to his childhood club Manchester United, where he is unlikely to get a chance under new head coach Michael Carrick.
His agent are said to be on the look out for alternative, with Chelsea being among clubs who have shown interest.
According to Chelsea expert Si Phillips, the West London club have not dismissed the possibility of signing Rashford and may consider making an official approach later in the summer.
However, it believed that Chelsea will only go for Rashford if their pursuits of other targets do not materialize.
