Chelsea Close In on £47m Crystal Palace Star After Defender Agrees Stamford Bridge Move
Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix after the French centre-back reportedly agreed to join the Blues this summer.
Despite concerns over the club’s financial position following another season without European football, Chelsea continue to press ahead with plans to strengthen their squad. Recent player sales have helped create room for further investment, with Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid generating significant funds, while Enzo Fernandez has also been linked with a high-profile switch to the Spanish giants.
With Xabi Alonso now taking charge as Chelsea manager, the club’s recruitment strategy appears to be focused on reinforcing key areas, particularly in defence. The former Bayer Leverkusen boss is believed to have a greater influence over transfer decisions than previous managers, and signing a new centre-back has become one of his main priorities.
Lacroix has emerged as a leading target after impressing during his time at Crystal Palace. Reports suggest the defender has already given the green light to a move to Stamford Bridge, paving the way for Chelsea to finalise an agreement worth around £47 million.
Chelsea have also made progress in their pursuit of highly-rated full-back Marco Palestra, who is expected to complete a medical before sealing his move to west London. The potential arrivals of both players would represent a significant defensive overhaul ahead of the new campaign.
If negotiations with Crystal Palace are completed as expected, Lacroix could become one of Chelsea’s marquee signings of the summer as Alonso continues shaping his squad for the challenges ahead.
