Brentford star may not be able to adapt at Chelsea

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has expressed fear over Chelsea’s target Ivan Toney ahead of the January transfer window.

Toney, who is currently to Brentford, has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Arsenal.

However, Merson expressed doubts on whether the England star will adapt well to life at Stamford Bridge.

“It is a lot of money. I do think he is a really good player, but he has not been at a top club yet and we are seeing that with David Raya and Moises Caicedo at the moment,” Merson said in his column for Sky Sports.

“It’s so different playing for Brentford, no disrespect, to playing for Arsenal or Chelsea. There is so much scrutiny playing for the top clubs.

“Let’s take the weekend. Brentford lost to Sheffield United. What page was that report on? You hardly heard about it. However, Chelsea lost to Everton and it is headline after headline.”
