Chelsea have been handed a boost as their key defender and Denmark international Andreas Christensen has rejected a move to join Spanish club Barcelona.

This is according to popular transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who revealed that Chelsea defender Christensen had rejected the chance to join FC Barcelona as a free agent in the following summer window.

The Danish international became a centre of attraction due to his renewal dilemma with Chelsea as his current contract with the Blues will end this summer.

If he fails to extend his contract, he would have the option to leave Stamford Bridge for free and join any club he wishes to join.

Chelsea’s are keen on keeping the Danish defender at Stamford Bridge as they had offered him a new contract earlier, but both sides failed to reach an agreement.

There are, however, indications that both sides are already in talks on a new term, and an announcement will be made public once they reach an agreement.

Christensen, alongside Antonio Rudiger, has helped strengthen the Blues defence this season, and it would be a big blow on the Blues to see him leave.
