Former Chelsea star, Gianfranco Zola in a recent statement expressed surprise over the club’s decision to sell Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic this summer.

Recall that Chelsea sold Mount to Man Utd, while Kovacic was sold to Man City.

Aside from the two players, Chelsea witnessed mass exit from the club this summer transfer window including N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Zola stressed that the departure of both Mount and Kovacic will be a ‘big miss’ next season.

“I am surprised to have seen so many players leaving.

“I was surprised to see Mason leaving, and Kovacic leaving.

“They were very important players, not only for the quality they used to give the team but with Mason, he is one of the midfielders who could score goals.

“In my opinion, they are a big miss. I don’t mention Kante because he was injured the whole season last season but the other two are very key players,” Zola told talkSPORT.
