Arteta was never ready to coach a big club like Arsenal

Following Arsenal poor performance this season, the club’s former defender, William Gallas has said Mikel Arteta was never ready for the coaching job at the North London club.

Recall that Arteta took over from Unai Emery in 2018 and since then he has been trying to help the Gunners form a headway in the premier league.

Arteta takeover at Arsenal however hit it worst this season as they dropped out of the top six to the 8th spot on the EPL table.

They also lost in the Europa League to their former coach, Unai Emery’s led Villarreal side who went on to win the trophy vs Man Utd in the final.

Following their performance, the Gunners will not be playing in Europe next season.

For these reasons, Dallas has said Arteta was never ready to manage a big club like Arsenal.

He stated that he was only an assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at Man City and it was not enough qualification.

”Mikel Arteta was not ready yet to manage a club like Arsenal,” Gallas, who spent four years at the Emirates as a player, told The Sun.

“OK, he was an assistant coach at Manchester City. But he had never managed a team. It is completely different.

“The board made a mistake picking him. I am sure he will be a great manager, but you need to have the experience to manage a big club.

“To be honest, it is a great shame for the Arsenal fans after finishing eighth.

“Arsenal is not the same Arsenal we knew 18, 20 years ago. We had players who were strong with strong personalities.”
