Former Manchester United star and DC United manager, Wayne Rooney has tipped Declan Rice to be successful at the North London club.

Rooney also applauded Arsenal for making the move to sign Rice from West Ham this summer.

Rice is the Gunners’ third signing of the summer under manager Mikel Arteta after they signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea and Jurrien Timber from Ajax.

The English midfielder is the North London’s most expensive signing as he cost them a record-breaking fee of £105million.

Rooney in his statement also said Rice could be captain of Arteta’s squad already.

“He is a huge signing for Arsenal. He is a fantastic player, with a great mentality and is at the top of his game.

“Brings great character into the dressing room. He could be captain of Arsenal already,” Rooney told a press conference.

Despite splashing millions on Rice, Arteta has hinted at Arsenal signing more players this summer.
