Arsenal have reportedly taken the initiative in the summer transfer market by submitting an early bid for one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers.

According to El Nacional, the Gunners have made a formal offer for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres in a strategic effort to avoid a potential bidding war with other top clubs.

Mikel Arteta’s side enjoyed a strong season but ultimately fell short in their title pursuit, finishing behind champions Liverpool. A lack of clinical edge in front of goal has been a notable concern. While Mohamed Salah contributed 28 goals for Liverpool, Arsenal’s top scorer, Kai Havertz, managed just nine—highlighting the need for a more prolific centre-forward.

In response, Arsenal have turned their attention to Gyökeres, who has enjoyed a remarkable season in Portugal, scoring 52 goals across all competitions.

The 25-year-old Swedish international has attracted significant attention from across Europe, but Arsenal are hoping their early €60 million (£51.1 million) offer will put them in pole position.

However, the report notes that Sporting are unlikely to part ways with Gyökeres unless a bid approaches his €100 million (£85.2 million) release clause.

Arsenal’s proactive approach signals their intent to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season, and they will be hoping that acting early gives them a decisive edge in one of the summer’s most competitive transfer sagas.
