Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in a post-match statement has confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli will be unavailable during their Champions League opener against PSV on Wednesday night.

However, the Brazil star could be available when the Gunners play against Tottenham in the Premier League at the weekend.

Recall that Martinelli was forced off with a hamstring injury during the Gunners’ 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Brazilian was also missing from Arsenal’s training session on Tuesday as the rest of the squad prepared for their Champions League return.

“He felt something in his hamstring, we need to do some further tests to assess if there’s any big damage or not.

“But he will be out for tomorrow’s game, that’s for sure,” Arteta said when asked about Martinelli’s situation on Tuesday.

Martinelli’s absence is a blow for Arsenal especially as they return to the UCL for the first time after two years.
