One reason why Ozil has been allowed to leave Arsenal
German international, Mesut Ozil is on the verge of departing Arsenal for Turkey within the next few days.
The Arsenal creative midfielder has been linked with moves Turkish League club, Fenerbahce as a free agent.
According to the reports, the transfer deal is nearing completion after the Gunners agreed to mutually terminate his contract with six months left to run.
However, in a recent statement, the Gunners coach, Mikel Arteta has cleared the air on the reason for Ozil’s departure as many have speculated a rift in the dressing room.
Arteta in his statement stressed that it has nothing to do with rift but for the improvement of the Gunners squad.
The Gunners coach said in a press conference, “For many different reasons, there is a history here as well what happened in the last few years, how things developed, how I believed the team should evolve for the future and his position at the club.”
He added that a player with such an importance that is not playing in the squad, is a really difficult situation to sustain for both parties.
Recall that Ozil was a key player at Arsenal following Areta’s appointment as Gunners manager in December 2019, but has been frozen out of the first team since March.
Despite that Arsenal need a creative midfielder in their squad, Areta has refused to give him a chance.
