Newcastle United have been handed renewed hope of keeping Bruno Guimaraes after fresh doubts emerged over Arsenal’s ability to complete a deal for the Brazil international this summer.

The Magpies’ captain has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League champions, with reports suggesting he is interested in joining Mikel Arteta’s side. However, despite ongoing speculation, no formal negotiations between the two clubs have yet taken place.

Discussions involving intermediaries are understood to have indicated that a transfer could be possible in the region of £50-60 million. Nevertheless, former Newcastle winger Chris Waddle believes the Magpies can effectively end Arsenal’s interest by demanding a significantly higher fee.

Waddle questioned whether Arsenal would be willing to spend such a substantial amount on a midfielder when they already possess strong options in the centre of the pitch. In his view, Newcastle remain in a powerful negotiating position and have little incentive to lower their valuation.

The Magpies are determined to avoid losing another key player after an eventful transfer window and continue to regard Guimaraes as one of the most important figures in Eddie Howe’s squad.

Arsenal remain keen to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season, but Newcastle’s firm stance means any potential agreement is likely to prove difficult unless the Gunners decide to increase their financial commitment.

For now, Guimaraes’ future remains unresolved, but Newcastle are increasingly optimistic they can retain their captain unless Arsenal return with an offer that reflects the midfielder’s true value.
